The grandpa of classic rock radio in the Cities, KQRS, has a traditional countdown every Memorial Day of 500 songs. I don’t how they determine which songs are included or in what order they appear on the list; none of that really matters because more often than not they wind up with a list that, in classic rock terms, makes as much sense as drawing song titles out of a hat. I listened to quite a bit of it this year, though. It was fun to hear a lot of radio songs and get a little touch of the outside world instead of going through my own playlists again and again. Of course I didn’t listen to all 500 songs — I don’t know how anyone could. But luckily they posted their list online so I could examine everything wrong with it.
For today’s post, I went through their list of 500 and chose 100 songs that I agreed should have been somewhere on that list. There were others I would have included, but these are the ones that, despite what discombobulated order they were in, merited a place. So here we go, if you’re curious: 100 songs that KQRS got right for their 2020 Memorial Day 500. I’m only including song titles on my list, because frankly, the song titles here should be enough for you to know what they are and who sang them. As always, in no particular order:

If you don’t agree, that’s okay. That’s the beauty of a countdown like this — so many of the songs will mean different things to different people. With that in mind, feel free to make your own list if you’re as pathetic as I am and willing to invest the kind of time it takes to do something like this.
