Relay Playlist?

The Relay for Life is a week from tonight. This time next week I'll be getting things ready while Spencer will be standing watch by his special front door window, daring anyone to mess with his house as he so often spends his time doing. With the effort that went into raising money this year and this being the 5th anniversary of my sister's death, and with young Master SuperKyle's parents thinking ahead to things like DNR status, there's a lot of emotion spiraling around the event this year. I have my shirt, I helped Grandma turn in our raised money -- just over $2,000 and counting due to the support of so many people who had it in them to donate, and thank you to those who did and are still planning to but simply haven't had the opportunity yet. I've completed my two luminary bags. One for Dop, one for Kyle. A victim, and a survivor.

I'm really looking forward to the event, but I'm holding back from planning too much as far as what I hope to do and see. I've found that in cases like this, just rolling with things can be more satisfying. I do plan on having a wad of cash on hand so Nephews #2 and #3 can run through all of the fund raising booths and buy whatever crappy toys they want to help raise money, and I'm going to be looking over the silent auction very carefully.

But as it so often does, with me it comes down to music. They'll have a DJ there, and this means that at least 40% of the songs played will be crap, and, perhaps even worse, country. So I plan on autofilling the yPod for one night and one night only, christening it the RelayPod. I might go through and make a playlist of significant songs for the night, or I might just wind up using today's album of the day: "Snow" by Spock's Beard.

Simply stated, this is the album that pulled me through my sister's death. It is nothing less than that to me. If you've read enough of this blog to grasp the critical role music plays in my life, you will know what a significant statement that is for me to make.

So do I go for a variety? Do I use songs from the playlist I created while I wrote "Two Years?" Or do I just put "Snow" on and hit repeat? I likely won't know the answer to this until the day arrives.
