It's hard for me to put too much mental energy into anything but school in the final weeks of the year, so it's usually this same time of year I wind up putting together lists of things I'd like to over the summer when I have more time to waste. A few legitimate, productive projects always make the list, but there are also a lot of TV shows I want to watch and books I want to read.
I think this summer will be the year I finally commit to watching my way through Game of Thrones. I've seen a few episodes throughout the run (including a startling moment when I randomly flipped to an episode just as the Red Wedding was about to commence), but any time in the past I've tried to work through the series, I couldn't get past seeing so many characters die in such arbitrary ways and seeing characters I didn't like come out on top. Then I realized that somehow I had watched five seasons of The Walking Dead, where those problems also exist. So....
In addition to that, there are a few shows on Netflix I've been waiting to get to: Daredevil, Bloodline, Season 3 of House of Cards (which I thought jumped the shark in season 2, so admittedly that isn't a huge priority for me), and a new one called Sense8 that looks pretty cool. But even with that long list (for me) of shows to watch, I could be missing out on some other undiscovered gems out there.
As for books, I already have plans to add more to the never-ending, always growing, "waiting to be read" stack. Just weeks ago I received a series of super-thick fantasy novels in the mail as a late Christmas present from some friends -- The Mistborn Trilogy, if anyone is familiar. I haven't read a lot of fantasy so I'm anxious to tear into these, and having them staring me down from my coffee table is only building the anticipation. Additionally I'm planning on catching up on some books that came out of Donadio & Olson, the **ahem** literary agency that represents me. I also have a short list of some older favorites I haven't read in years that I want to revisit, and a stack of middle grade titles I'll be bringing home from school to try and keep my writing chops in good shape. But of course there always other unknown titles out there, just waiting for the chance to be read and either change my life or keep me entertained for a weekend -- as I'm sure at least one John Sandford paperback will at some point.
But as far as TV shows or books that I haven't discovered just yet and should really, really think about trying: Any suggestions??
