Shorter post tonight. Remember a few days back, when I posted this?
Day 13: The Book Club of Destiny
Tonight is the night of that very book club meeting. I'm mostly excited, but a tiny bit anxious. This is mostly a positive anxious, though. It will certainly be a fun to have these people over to my house to talk about my book. As I'm sure I've mentioned a few times before, in my earlier days as a writer getting people to agree to read something I wrote usually involved a lot of hopeful groveling. Not tonight, though. These people were excited to read it, and so far have had very nice things to say, and I get to be there and listen to them roll through a list of discussion questions about it! All good things!
But, there's a world collision on the horizon, probably, as long as all the technology works the way it's supposed to. Which, speaking from the perspective of someone who has experienced a lot of presentation snafus happening during staff development sessions, I'll feel better about it when I know it's happening and it worked. Once book club came together with the novelty of having the author involved with the discussion, I thought, "Why stop there? Why not see if how possible it would be to also get the agent to make a cameo appearance as well?"
Long story short, the plans are in place right now for book club to connect with Carrie tonight through cell phone and Bluetooth technology, which I'm very excited about, but this does introduce an unusual collision of Writer World and School World for me. I'm not expecting it to be anything but great, but having those two worlds not just existing side by side like they usually do, and actually overlap for a short time? It's newish territory for me, so it could feel a little weird.
Not that that's a bad thing, though. In fact, with any luck, the day won't be too far in the future where there's more overlap than independence between the two worlds.
Might as well start getting used to it now....
